Welcome to Our Sutton Place (formerly Technotini—read more about our rebrand here).
Our Sutton Place is a FAMILY FUN blog focused on providing lots of EASY SHORTCUTS and tips to help you live a more fun-filled, and BALANCED life.
Whether you’re looking for easy DIY craft ideas, kid-friendly recipes or travel inspiration, or maybe even just home/parenting ideas to get you through the CRAZY days, I’m here to help with CREATIVE IDEAS to make everything EASIER.
Let’s problem solve and LIVE CREATIVELY.
About Shana and Our Sutton Place
Hi, I’m Shana Lourie Sutton. My friends sometimes call me ShanaLou for short.
I live just outside Boulder, CO with my husband, Scott, and our two girls (adoringly referred to as #SuttonSisters) ages 8 and 10. We love to explore the Rocky Mountains as well as other family destinations throughout the East Coast (where I’m from). We’re always up for a road trip and love to share our adventures and lessons learned along with you.
I’m also a breast cancer survivor, so my mission is to help myself, my family, and my readers find balance, joy | fun, and strength in the chaos of everyday.
Sometimes the solution is as simple as keeping it simple and creative.
Simple Solutions to Modern Parenting Stresses
Modern parenting is hard. We try to do everything and be everything to everyone.
And with social media, the pressures to succeed in every single way, seem greater than ever.
When deep down—we just want to have some extra time to enjoy those simple little moments, right?
Maybe make some old fashioned cookies with our kids, or look at clouds morph shapes in the sky, or perhaps….if we’re lucky—actually create one of those fabulous DIY’s we Pinned months ago.
Well, if you’re looking for SIMPLE WAYS–and when I say simple—I actually mean SIMPLE—in Real Mom speak— simple ways to add more creativity and fun to your life, then THIS IS THE PLACE FOR YOU.
Real Easy Family Fun Ideas/Solutions for Real Moms
I LOVE crafts and being creative. But I’m no Martha Stewart.
If I come across a craft or recipe that’s a total #PinterestFail, I’ll be honest. I’ll show you what I did wrong and how to improve it next time…like when I tried to make a Thanksgiving Fruit Salad Turkey and it turned into a fruit Octopus. (yeah, not my best moment) But-Lesson learned ,and I passed all my new tips on to you, my Dear Reader.
I like to find creative solutions to life’s everyday problems—Solutions that not only SOLVE THE PROBLEM itself but also ADD MORE FUN and JOY to your life. Like FUN solutions to stop sibling squabbles—Whaat?? Yes, it’s true!, or Genius ways to motivate kids when hiking, or Creative Ways to keep kids safe at theme parks, or super fun ways to give kids ownership of their space during long car rides—(bonus-it results in less mess!)
Family Fun Through Imagination
We love to live everyday with imagination. You can read more about how this came to be in my article for the Today Parenting Community. I was inspired by my dad who would take us on mystery trips and turn every ordinary experience into something magical. So now as a mom, I try to do the same for my family.
And I can’t help but continue to be inspired everyday by my love for Disney.
Fun Fact: In college, I participated in the Walt Disney World College Program for two summers! And my husband and I both ran the Disney World Half Marathon.
Here are a couple of my favorite Disney-inspired posts:
Looking for easy ways to get your kids to eat veggie filled pasta? Try this Minnie Mouse Bow tie recipe.
Or need a super fun, healthy snack for school event? Check out these Disney Snow Globe Souvenir -inspired Snow Globe Snack Cups.

Working with Brands
Before becoming a full-time blogger, I worked in TV and media for almost 20 years creating content and interactive applications for some of America’s most trusted and beloved brands…everything from the Ad Council’s Smokey Bear campaign to interactive online gaming worlds at Cartoon Network to First to Market applications for The Weather Channel, CNN, HBO and NBC’s Olympic coverage. In fact, some of my work has been nominated for Interactive Advanced Media Technology Emmy Awards.
And now as a Family Blogger, I work hard to connect our sponsoring brands (and their message) with our lives and our readers in an authentic and organic manner.
