Super Easy Snow Globe Snack Cups
This super quick and easy snack cup idea is great for school events, birthday parties, or just stay at home snow days! Your kids will love both creating and eating their own magical snow globe snack cup treat.
I love snow globes. They’re these magical little views into a far away place that you can hold, quite simply, the palm of your hand. They’re especially fun when you’re small. Do you remember the first time you held a snow globe in your hand and watched those shimmery little white specs fly around inside, glistening and sparkling…suspended in air just as your imagination was suspended almost in air? And then you’d give it a shake and they’d spring back up, flutter around, and gently fall to the ground again? I loved that.
What was your first snow globe? Was it a winter scene from a far away city? Was it a ballerina or the north pole? Mine was a scene from Disneyland that my parents bought me when I was three. So when we were at Disney World last winter, I did not hesitate when I saw the classic little snow globes. I quickly snagged one for my little girls as a special souvenir. When we got back home, I looked at the calendar and saw that week was my daughter’s turn for “Share a Snack” day. She’d have to bring something for Show and Tell and then also bring a snack. The snack did not have to coordinate with the Show and Tell piece, but of course I couldn’t resist and decided to try and create a fun (and of course, EASY) snack to bring with her new snow globe.
How to Make Super Easy Snow Globe Snack Cup Treats for Kids
Supplies for the Snow Globe Snack Cup
- small, round plastic cups. I used the disposable round cups from Gladware.
- small, fun snack food (I used Teddy Grahams and Goldfish crackers but you can use whatever you want!)
- Dry coconut (this is usually found in the baking or trail mix section of your grocery store)
- permanent marker (optional) I used one to label the lids
Let’s Make the Snow Globe Treats!
Step 1: Gather your cups. I pre-washed mine. (This picture was taken as they were drying.)
FAVORITE TIP: Using these little round cups made transporting the treats to my daughter’s school so easy. I didn’t have to worry about different food pieces fitting into a container or spilling on the way, etc. I definitely learned my lesson from the Thanksgiving Fruit Turkey Tray! haha
Step 2: Grab your snacks to for the cups. Don’t forget the shredded coconut for the snow!
Again, we used Goldfish and Teddy Grahams, but you can use anything as long as it’s small and dry. For example, trail mix, dried fruit, chocolate chips, small cookies, or crackers.
TIP: Don’t use fresh fruit because the coconut shreds will stick to the moisture and then they won’t flutter.
Step 3: Fill the cups. We used about a table spoon of coconut shreds per cup. You don’t want to use too much, or else you can’t see the little treats inside. My daughter loved helping.
Step 4: Attach the lids, turn over, and you’re done!
I wrote a little note on top for my daughter’s friends to help them see which side was right-side up. It also give a little extra personalization, especially if you’re making these for a party.
“Snow Globe Snack, Love Cassidy.”
(This is where I used the permanent marker. Total optional step.)
So there you have it–a DIY Snow Globe Snack Cup inspired by the classic snow globe. I’d love to hear from you. Did you have a magical snow globe when you were young? Please leave me a comment below with your thoughts.
