Meet the Oklahoma Strong Smash cocktail
This week’s cocktail is the Oklahoma Strong Smash. This unique take on the Bourbon Smash is a drink that my husband discovered and actually helped name while on a business trip in Oklahoma. It quickly became one of his faves due to the amazing array of subtle sweet, spicy, and bitter flavors that come from the Strong Tonic.
What is Strong Tonic, you ask? Well, it’s a new all-natural tonic syrup from Oklahoma made from by extracting quinine from cinchona bark. It creates subtle flavors that pair nicely with fine spirits.
The Oklahoma Strong Smash is very similar to a traditional Bourbon Smash with the added Strong tonic syrup. Side note: The Bourbon Smash is part of a family of “smashed” drinks where the ingredients are muddled together. (The mojito is also included in this category.)
Ingredients:
3/4 ounce simple syrup
8 fresh mint leaves, plus 1 sprig, for garnish
3 lemon wedges
2 ounces bourbon
1 1/2 ounces of Strong Tonic Syrup
Recipe:
In your shaker, gently muddle the mint and lemon. Let stand for 5-10 minutes to allow the muddled leaves and lemon to release their flavor. Next add the simple syrup, bourbon, and Strong Tonic Syrup. Stir vigorously then strain and slowly pour into an ice filled glass. Garnish with mint and/or lemon peel.
Cheers to a strong weekend!

Oui, je parle un petit francais, mais je ne parle francais en vingt ans (I haven’t really used/spoken it in almost 20 yrs) Yikes! I studied it in high school so I’m very rusty since that was a long time ago. I’ll try to practice by reading your blog! Fun idea! C’est chouette! 🙂
