Dulce de Leche Egg Nog Cocktail-pst! It’s low-fat!
My dulce de leche egg nog holiday cocktail recipe is delicious, low-fat and simple to make. Perfect for Christmas, Hanukkah, or New Year’s Eve parties.
This year, I’m putting together a collection of cocktails perfect to warm your heart and soul this holiday season. To get things started, I’ve taken a classic egg nog cocktail and given it a simple twist.
First, the base–My favorite Egg Nog
My absolute favorite pre-made egg nog hands-down is Horizon’s Organic Low-fat egg nog. Now-a-days, you can usually find it at Target or even Kroger but before it was so wide-spread, I was known to drive miles to the closest Whole Foods to get my winter fix. What I love about the egg nog from Horizon is that it’s low-fat BUT doesn’t taste low-fat.
It’s also not overly sweet. It seriously has the perfect balance of richness and warm-nutmeggy-spicey goodness to keep your taste buds singing fa-la-la-la for hours…without even adding any rum.
But as we all know, spiked egg nog is a staple at most holiday parties and as I was working on my cocktail list I tried to figure out a way to create an egg nog cocktail that was still classic and yet just a little different to “shake things up” so to speak. I was discussing this with my husband who, without hesitation, suggested —ok no, he literally grabbed–his favorite rum and before I knew it had created this amazingly easy and delicious cocktail.
The result—The Technotini Dulce de Leche Egg Nog!
How to Make Low Fat Dulce de Leche Egg Nog Cocktail
The secret is in the rum.
By using Black Strap by Cruzan, my husband created this amazing alchemy of dark, creamy goodness. Black Strap is a very dark, less sweet rum. It has a rich almost molasses taste.
And when combined with the nutmeg infused Horizon Egg Nog–pure dulce de leche magic ensues!
From the moment it hits your lips, you feel like your floating on a rich creamy winter cloud. It’s smooth and sweet but not too sweet and will surely make your winter a little brighter.
Recipe:
1 part Cruzan Black Strap Rum
3 parts Horizon Egg Nog (or more or less to personal taste)
Pour in desired glass and mix. The Black Strap will float on the top of the egg nog until you mix it in in.
Although this looks pretty cool, you want to be sure to mix thoroughly so you can get the dulce de leche magic working. Then, enjoy!
Simple as that.
