My Favorite Back to School Mom Hacks for a Stress-Free School Year
Back to school can be a stressful time of year. After a summer off, sometimes it’s hard to get back into a routine. We all need any help we can get to make things run more smoothly. Today I’m sharing my favorite Back To School Mom Hacks. These are all ideas I’ve either tried or am excited to try.
My Favorite Back to School Mom Hacks for a Stress-Free School Year
First Day of School Sign Hack
Before the kiddo’s head back to school, you need to make the now ever-popular First Day of School Sign.
When my daughter entered kindergarten, I searched high and low for a sign template that would not cover her outfit but could not find one. Then it hit me–I needed to make one that was like a photo booth sign!
Check out my post for all the easy steps including my video that takes out all the guess work and my free printable for grades K-12.
Quick Easy Breakfast Hacks
At my house, it’s a constant struggle to get my kids to eat anything before sunrise. And who can blame them—how can you be hungry when the bus arrives at 6:45am? Yikes.
We usually resort to Vitamuffins (:30 zapped in the microwave-done!). Or I send them off with a healthy granola bar.
But I just love the idea of make-ahead oats or make-ahead chia pudding or make-ahead protein breakfast bites.
Here are a couple of my faves that I really want to try:
Daily Outfit Organization Hacks
We all know that having your kids lay out their clothes the night before is a huge time saver and stress reducer.
It takes away those morning outfit-related arguments.
“No, you can not wear that princess dress to school!” Or…
“Are you kidding me? A Bathing suit? This is Kindergarten NOT swim camp!”
But there’s a new trend wherein parents are now planning out clothing choices a week at a time! Pretty brilliant. Here are my favorite examples.
Use hanging fabric closet shelves to separate outfits by each day of the week like this idea from LoveAndMarriage.com
Or make a label like fortyeighteen.com
Or get a 5 drawer storage bin like this from KortneyBrady (This example went viral and was shared over a million times including Buzz Feed and The Today Show!). Such a cute idea!
Command Center Hacks
Everyone needs a central spot for their back backs and shoes. We use an Ikea bench -our shoes go in the bins and our back packs go on the bench.
I always love looking for new ways to keep my family organized. Here’s a great compilations of 13 Command Center ideas from What Moms Love.
School Lunch Hacks
I don’t know you about your kids, but my kids do NOT like lemon juice on apples (to keep them from getting brown). So I got very excited when I learned this tip from the Passion for Savings mom. She suggests: Take an apple, slice it, then re-assemble it and wrap it in plastic wrap. This will minimize the amount of air that gets in and with less oxidation, you’ve got less browning. Brilliant! I tried it and took a picture (as you can see above). I’ll admit, it was a little tricky putting the apple back together, but I’m still excited about this idea.
She also has great ideas for keeping chicken nuggets and hot dogs warm by keeping them in a thermos. Learn more here.
After School Responsibilities for Kids
It’s so important to have a good routine for kids after school. It helps them manaage expectations, get their homework and still have time to be kids and play.
This cute clock activity from The Trophy Wifestyle helps teach time management and responsibility:
