Hotel Transylvania 2-Movie Review
Last week, my family and I were invited to an early screening of Hotel Transylvania 2. We were super excited because Hotel Transylvania is one of our favorite movies. I was a little worried that the sequel wouldn’t hold up to the first one, but believe me–it did NOT disappoint!
Here’s the official synopsis:
Drac’s pack is back for an all-new monster comedy adventure in Sony Pictures Animation’sHotel Transylvania 2! Everything seems to be changing for the better at Hotel Transylvania… Dracula’s rigidmonster-only hotel policy has finally relaxed, opening up its doors to human guests. But behind closedcoffins, Drac is worried that his adorable half-human, half-vampire grandson, Dennis, isn’t showing signs ofbeing a vampire. So while Mavis is busy visiting her human in-laws with Johnny – and in for a major culturalshock of her own – “Vampa” Drac enlists his friends Frank, Murray, Wayne and Griffin to put Dennisthrough a “monster-in-training” boot camp. But little do they know that Drac’s grumpy and very old, old, oldschool dad Vlad is about to pay a family visit to the hotel. And when Vlad finds out that his great-grandson isnot a pure blood – and humans are now welcome at Hotel Transylvania – things are going to get batty.
The movie is packed with comedian star power: Adam Sandler, Andy Samberg, Selena Gomez, Kevin James, Steve Buscemi, David Spade, Fran Drescher, Molly Shannon, Mel Brooks, AND—Keegan-Michael Key (from Key and Peele)! Keegan-Michael replaces CeeLo Green as Murray the mummy. I was super excited about this because I’ve been a HUGE Keegan-Michael fan ever since I first saw him performing on campus at Penn State a hundred years ago. <Side note–he was in the illustrious MFA program for theater when I was an undergrad> . And he’s hilarious taking over for CeeLo.
This movie will have you laughing from start to finish. And don’t worry if you haven’t seen the first Hotel Transylvania. Character backstories are explained naturally through plot exposition. However, you will laugh a lot louder if you know the reference to “I do not say Bla Bla Bla” or when you see that the wedding cake is made out of “scream cheese!” (A great nod to the first movie).

Hotel Transylvania 2 is packed with laughs and definitely fun for the whole family.
