How to Make: Super Easy Two Ingredient Chocolate Peanut Butter and Banana Ice Cream
I’d heard the legend of a super simple ice cream dessert made with a banana base, but I didn’t think it really existed. Ice cream from bananas? How is that possible without cream or milk or yogurt?
But at the prodding of my daughter–I soon found the holy grail to this amazing delicious master piece.
Could it be?
Does it really exist?
Is it really that easy?
Is it really actually creamy and delicious?
Yes, Yes, and Yes! This healthy, kid-friendly two ingredient chocolate peanut butter and banana ice cream is super easy, super creamy, and super delicious! My daughter loved making it with me and couldn’t believe how yummy it was!

My daughter loves popsicles, and she always wants one after school.
Living in the deep, HOT South, who can blame her?
This week in science class, she started learning all about the three stages of water (liquid, solid, and gas) and has been super excited to make her own solid frozen treats.
Meanwhile, as a mom always looking for healthier alternatives, I’ve been meaning to try homemade banana ice cream forever. (It’s been on my To Do list ever since I saw that Yonanna commercial: ice cream from only bananas in minutes? umm yes please!)
So after I saw my poor little one trying to make popsicles by freezing plain water in a ziplock bag, I decided it was time to hit Pinterest and intervene. Thanks to Pinterest, I discovered that you apparently you just need bananas and peanut butter (or any other nut butter).
And the trick is…
Are you ready?
The trick to making two ingredient ice cream is….
The bananas MUST be FROZEN.
(Otherwise, you’re making vegan mouse–which, don’t get me wrong is also quite delicious-just not a frozen dessert).
Grab These Yummy Ingredients
- Frozen Bananas (I would start with at least 2 per person)
- Chocolate Peanut Butter
- Super Secret Optional Ingredient: Cinnamon!
How to Make Your Awesome Two Ingredient Chocolate Peanut Butter and Banana Ice Cream
- Take the frozen bananas and add them to your Vitamix. Mix on a low level like level 2. You may need to pause it and move the solid bananas around with a spoon until it really starts to blend.
- Once it’s creamy, add in 2 tablespoons chocolate peanut butter. (I’ve seen other recipes that say to add cocoa powder and peanut butter, but I had some “Dark Chocolate Dreams” natural chocolate peanut butter from Peanut Butter & Co in the pantry, so I used that.)
- Blend the peanut butter and creamed bananas on level 2. Do this until everything is mixed together.
- Optional step: Add a dash of cinnamon! (This was my daughter’s idea, and it totally worked! mmmmm!)

- Scoop out of the blender, and enjoy!
Here’s a quick video summarizing the steps.
My daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed the ice cream. It was sooo good. Creamy, cold, sweet, and delicious!
We are definitely making this fun treat again soon (and by soon, I mean as soon as our next batch of bananas freezes!)
Sidebar Tip: As soon as your bananas start to get a little too soft to eat, instead of throwing them out–slice them up and freeze them. You can use them for this dessert or even smoothies.
