The first Toasting Tuesdays post is here. My goal of Toasting Tuesdays is to carve…
Toasting Tuesdays-80 years in the making.
Hi everyone!
This is a special Toasting Tuesdays because I’m toasting my dad’s big 80th birthday which is coming up later this week. (Blog note: Look for a special birthday-themed musical playlist next Monday. I didn’t have a chance to post it yesterday since I was traveling.)
Keeping with my Toasting Tuesdays goal of honoring Wine, Women, Wellness, and #Wins, I’ve compiled a list of the 4 W’s as they pertain to 1934. I found them pretty interesting and hope you will too. Here we go…
Wine:
Fun Fact #1: 1934 was a special year for Bordeaux.
Unlike the 1920’s, the whole of the 1930’s was not very kind to this varietal, however, 1934 turned out to be a wonderful vintage. According to The Wine Cellar Insider, the Bordeaux region of France suffered from a horrible drought, but just in time for harvest, they experienced a lot of rain which helped the grapes and this special combination of long drought with burst of rain, created a wonderful vintage.
Women:
Fun Fact #3: Elinor Smith was the first women featured on a Wheaties cereal box.
Smith was a prominent stunt flyer who broke dozens of aviation records. Check out her bio at wikipedia sometime. It’s crazy to think about the things people used to do-she was the youngest licensed pilot (at age 16), broke stunt records by flying under NYC bridges, and of course broke endurance records as well. I guess since kids these days can’t push the envelope by flying under transportation structures, they have to resort to extreme sports like free style snowboarding or motor cross, which is probably a good thing.
Wellness:
Fun Fact #3: Great Smokey Mountains National Park was chartered and later dedicated by President Roosevelt in 1940.
The national parks provide an amazing space for our environment to flourish as well as for us to flourish among the serene environment. Doing activities in the outdoors is an excellent way to connect with family, yourself, and your mind/body/soul.
Wins:
Fun Fact #4: The first US ski tow (rope) begins operation (Woodstock Vermont).
I love skiing so I can’t think of a better #win than the installation of the first ski tow! Can you imagine having to hike all the way up the mountain before this important invention?
