Add These 5 Songs to Your Workout Right Now!
This motivational music post is written in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month and living strong!
Getting back into good exercise groove.
Sometimes it just seems like like the hardest thing in the world to do. More difficult than the actual workout, a hurdle in our already overrun and exhausted schedule of work and kids and everything else–a hurdle bigger than an actual mountain. And the older we get, the more important it gets and again-the harder it gets. But never fear! I have found the five greatest workout songs that will get you to the gym and keep you motivated! Plus, I’ve created a printable of one my favorite inspirational quotes!

OK, I’ll admit it, I’m not the best runner girl in the world. Hiker – yes! Runner – not-so-much.
Once I’m in the middle of a run, I feel like a total rock star, and I never want to stop. But it’s those last few moments- right as I’m about to step on a the treadmill–where I always almost back out. My mind starts racing.
The little devil on my shoulder starts shouting, “You can’t do this! You’re not a runner!”
I meekly try to fight back. “Yes, I can,” I say. “I’m sure I can do this, although I am really, really tired. My girls woke me up twice last night and then the dog started barking…and NO, I can do this….”
The little Devil is still there. “I don’t think so! Didn’t you just drink a cup of water? I’m sure you need to pee! And has it really been 30 minutes since you last ate? Swimming and running are deadly unless it’s been 30 minutes. You can’t do this!! Just back away from the machine. Slowly. Back away. Why don’t you just take your dog for a leisurely stroll?”
I start to cave….”It is really nice outside…I do think I feel a stitch in my side….” Then I remember my new music list and it calls to me. And even better…I remember an ancient Chinese proverb that I heard recently:

That’s it! That stupid little devil on my shoulder is only pestering me because it knows I’m about to ROCK IT! I CAN DO THIS. I CAN SUCCEED!
And I jump on the treadmill and am on my way.
First, I warm up (slow run) to Roar by Katy Perry. If there is any doubt left in my head about being able to run, this song pushes it all away.
Next, comes Drive By from Train.
(I like the rhythm, especially the chorus. It gets me going and keeps me going. I do have to admit that it kind of plays with my mind a little. One of our favorite Sesame Street songs is Five By, performed by Train and The Count, so my mind wanders between images of the Sesame Street and images of wine country from the Drive By video. But it’s nice because it reminds me of my daughters and helps me stay motivated so I can be a good example for them.)
Then comes Shakira and a variety of World Cup sons. Have you ever really listened to the World Cup songs? They’re pretty darn inspirational.
My favorite one is an oldie but goody–Cup of Life by Ricky Martin. It may sound cheezy but how can you not push yourself when you hear:
And when you feel that heat
The world is at your feet
No one can hold you down
If you really want it
Just steal your destiny
Right from the hands of fate
Reach for the cup of life
Cause your name is on it
Do you really want it … (Yeah!)
Do you really want it … (Yeah!)
Do you really want it … (Yeah!)

It’s the ultimate song to place in your workout list when you need a boost.
I also have We Are One by Pittbull featuring Jennifer Lopez. I love the rhythm and inspirational lyrics. It helps me stay in a good running groove. I also know that when JLo comes in, the song is almost over and I’ve gone that much farther. whoohooo!
There are just some songs that you can’t ignore as good workout songs and this is definitely one of them (as cheezy as that may be). Shake it Off, by Taylor Swift.
