Five ways to Rock a Ski Hat PLUS-Bourbon Milk Punch recipe
*Editor’s Note: Sweet Turns was super sweet and gave me a hat to test and review. All opinions are my own.
I recently attended the Atlanta showing of this year’s Warren Miller movie “No Turning Back.” For 65 years, the annual Warren Miller movie premiere has signaled the beginning of ski season. For skiers and riders, it’s like seeing Santa Claus at the end of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade. Ski season doesn’t begin until you’ve seen this season’s movie premiere.
The Warren Miller shows are always a lot of fun. There are always great give aways, sometimes ski celebrity sightings, and always ski-related merchandisers in attendance with their latest hot products straight off the slopes. This year I was introduced to Sweet Turns. They’re an amazing ski apparel company based right here in the South (Lexington, KY). They make hats, gloves, scarves, and even laptop covers all designed here in the US by founder Connie Boone. Connie had been looking for stylish winter apparel that everyone in her ski loving family could enjoy and when nothing fit the bill, she decided to start Sweet Turns.

The hats are made from an alpaca/acrylic blend and lined with fleece, so they’re incredibly soft and warm. No, really, they are amazingly soft. The outside features exquisite hand-embroidery which lends an air of craft to the hat and enables you to take it off the slopes into more formal apres ski settings.

But what do you do if you don’t have an apres ski near you? What do you do if you don’t have ski or snow near you? Don’t worry–I’ve put my fabulous new green Emma hat from Sweet Turns to the test! Here are 5 places you can wear your hat with confidence, even if you don’t have snow.
*Note–cold weather is required.
1) The school drop off line. Yoga pants and ski hat
2) Shopping at an upscale mall
3) Happy hour with friends in a hipster part of town
4) Walking the dog
5) Preparing the perfect apres ski (err..I mean Apres shopping) aperatif
Speaking of preparing your favorite apres shopping cocktail, you may want to try a Bourbon Milk Punch. I made mine with Lexington Bourbon in honor of Sweet Turns’ Kentucky roots. (Side note: This drink actually originated in New Orleans.) The Bourbon Milk Punch is a great winter beverage, because like all whiskey drinks, it really warms you up inside. It’s strong and slightly sweet, just like most snow bunnies. (Of course, you can make it sweeter by adding simple syrup.)
Recipe:
2 parts bourbon
1 part creme de cacao
4 parts milk
1/2 part vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
Cinnamon stick for garnish
Simply pour the bourbon, creme de cacao, milk, and vanilla extract into a shaker two-thirds full of ice cubes. Add the cinnamon, and shake well. Strain into an ice filled mason jar. Garnish with a cinnamon stick. Enjoy!
I’d love to hear your thoughts! Leave me a comment below on your favorite apres ski or apres shopping hat. And let me know what you think of Sweet Turns! Aren’t their hats beautiful?
