Top 5 Reasons You Won’t Want to Miss the Georgia Aquarium
The Georgia Aquarium is the largest aquarium in the world and is a definite must-see while visiting Atlanta or even just enjoying a fun local family day. With amazing shows, interactive hands-on activities, and 8 massive marine life exhibits, the Georgia Aquarium provides a fun-filled day for everyone.
I’d been wanting to take our girls to the Georgia Aquarium forever…..ever since we started reading about it nightly in our Good Night Atlanta book.
Good Night Georgia Aquarium. It’s the largest in the world!
I’ll be honest. We had dragged our feet on committing to an aquarium visit for a while because of the price tag. Tickets average around $30 a person depending on if you buy online, in advance, at the window, etc. (For full ticket pricing information, click here.) And quite honestly, we just weren’t sure if it was worth over $100 investment for just 1 day of fun.
But let me tell you…… IT TOTALLY IS. It is such an amazing venue! It’s fun, exciting, and educational. Everything you could ever possibly want from an aquarium and then some. And regarding the price–you need to look at it as “an experience.” You’re not just looking at fish all day–you’re experiencing marine life at its best. There are so many interactive activities and shows, it’s really more like a theme park–an educational theme park, and you have to remember that when you’re buying the tickets.
It’s the perfect place to spend the day. Not only will you not regret it, but as soon as you leave, you’ll be excited to plan your next visit.
@GeorgiaAquarium is a like an educational theme park where families can experience all the wonder of marine life. Share on X
Top 5 Reasons You Won’t Want to Miss the Georgia Aquarium
With great animal shows like “Dolphin Celebration” and “Sea Lions Under the Boardwalk, it was seriously like going to a theme park-right in our own back yard!!! And not to mention all of the wonderful hands-on activities like the shark and sting ray touch pool.
#1: Dolphin Celebration
We started our day with the “Dolphin Celebration” show.
Wow, what a way to start things off!
“Dolphin Celebration” is a super exciting, face paced show that teaches guests all about dolphin behavior, their relationships with humans and their trainers, and efforts being done to save dolphins in the wild.
Definitely-do not miss it!
#2: Explore the Wild Rivers of River Scout
Next, we visited the River Scout section. My daughters loved it and could’ve stayed there all day. It was soo immersive. You really felt like you were walking through different rivers around the world.
The was such a diverse collection of river animals—including piranhas, alligators, and otters. We loved the pretend river that flowed above our heads as well as the caves and peak-a-boo portals (which were only accessible by crawling through a kid-size entrance).
#3 Ocean Voyager
Then we went to the Ocean Voyager section. This is the money shot—the famous view from commercials and books….including our fave “Goodnight Atlanta.”
This was definitely the most immersive exhibit.
The 6.3 million gallons of salt water gallery is surround by 4,574 square feet of viewing windows plus a 100-foot-long underwater tunnel!
There is no “bad seat” in this gallery!
You’ll see four whale sharks, four manta rays, and thousands of fish.
When you’re done all of the exhibits, it’s time to just sit and relax in front of the great glass wall.
It’s so peaceful and calm…a wonderful place to end a long day full of aquatic adventure.
And now we have our picture of the “schools of colorful fish,” just like in “Goodnight Atlanta.”
#4 Shark and Stingray touch pool
My daughters love anything in which they can get wet, but what they love even more is water Plus Animals, so you can imagine how excited they were when they got to touch a real life sting ray and tiny Bonnethead sharks!
#5 “Sea Lions Under the Boardwalk” show
The “Sea Lions Under the Boardwalk” show transports you to California where you learn all about the current sea lion struggles (in the wild) and how the Georgia Aquarium is making a difference for these adorably social animals.
