This year, I decided to go All Pink for October in celebration of Breast Cancer…
How to Make a Pink Pumpkin Topiary and Believe in a Cure
This Pink Pumpkin Topiary is a super fun and easy Fall DIY / craft. By using pink jack o’ lantern buckets, you save time and money. It’s a great way to show your support for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, #ThinkPink and all things pink ribbon!
Easy Pink Pumpkin Topiaries
Pumpkin Topiaries are very popular for Fall Front Door décor. Type in “Pumpkin Topiary” on Pinterest, and you’ll find everything from simple pumpkin towers to gorgeous and elaborate pumpkin topiary creations.
As soon as I saw some made with those Trick or Treat pails, I became super excited at the possibilities! Having 2 little girls, I know that you can also buy the $1 plastic pumpkin buckets in PINK!
If you’ve been following me, you know I wanted to go all out in my dedication to Breast Cancer Awareness Month and decorate everything pink in pursuit of my theme Believe in a Cure.
I quickly added this idea to my elaborate Believe in a Cure Front Porch master plan.

My favorite part about this craft is that you don’t have to spend time painting the pumpkins—they’re already PINK!
And they only cost $1 each!!!!!
(I seriously think the plastic pumpkin pail is my new favorite Halloween craft medium!)
How to make a Pink Pumpkin Topiary
Supplies:
- 3 Pink Jack O’ Lantern Halloween Pumpkin Pails
- Black Sharpie
- Gold Glitter (or whatever color you want)
- Glue (to apply glitter)
- Pink paint
- 6” mum
- hot glue gun
- Elmers glue
- scissors
Step 1: Buy three Jack O’ Lantern Halloween pumpkin pails at Walmart or Target
Step 2: Decorate the back side of the pumpkin pails
I decided to write Believe on the top, draw the Pink Ribbon symbol on the middle one, and write Cure on the bottom. You can sketch it out in pencil first, whatever you feel comfortable with. OR you could use a stencil. I just did it freehand.
One note of advice about the Pink Ribbon:
Be careful when you’re drawing the middle section—I wasn’t careful with my lines and you can see where they cross over each other. I tried to paint over it with some pink, but you can kind of still see it in the end result.
Step 3: Paint the inside of your Pink Ribbon
This adds a nice monochromatic touch to the ribbon while helping it to stand out. It also helps cover up any extra lines you may have drawn when you were sketching the ribbon. (see note above).
Step 4: Add Glitter
What would a fun project be without some glitter?
For this step, we went outside.
I used glue to outline the areas in which I wanted the glitter, then we sprinkled away.
Came out pretty well, don’t you think?
And we had fun getting sparkly.
Step 5: Clip the handles
Clip the black pail handles. I used regular scissors, and it worked fine.
Step 6: Assemble your Topiary
Once your glitter has dried, you’re ready to stack the pumpkins. I applied my hot glue to the base of the pumpkin.
Then, I added more hot glue once it was stacked. This helped fill in any crevices and added support.
Step 7: Add your flowers
Wait a few minutes until all the glue has dried, then add your flower pot. The 6 inch size plant will fit perfectly. I kept mine in the original container so then I can take it out once October (and Breast Cancer Awareness Month) is over. I’m going to carefully store my topiary in a bin so I can bring out again next year!
What do you think?
This was definitely my favorite project this Fall. It was simple, fun and inexpensive.
PLUS-I can use it again next year!
