How to make Strawberry Chocolate Chip Cookies 3 Different Ways
To close-out #Choctoberfest, I decided to make Strawberry Chocolate Chip Cookies in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. But these cookies can be used for any celebration where you could use a little extra pink (ex: Valentine’s Day, pink baby showers, birthday parties, etc).
My basic idea for this recipe was to use the classic Toll House Chocolate Chip recipe—add freeze dried strawberries and some white chocolate chips. I wanted to keep it simple because I tend to over-complicate things.
However, when I started baking, each of my daughters wanted something different. One wanted white chips, one wanted chocolate, they both wanted pink food coloring, and I wanted to draw ribbons with sparkly sprinkles.
WOAH–What had I gotten myself into?
(So much for keeping things simple…)
But somehow…even with all that craziness, I was able to make it work and…
This recipe STILL came out really easy.

I made one general batch of cookies and divided it into 3 batches. I then let my family choose how they wanted their batch prepared.
Batch Number 1:
This batch was the base. It had white chocolate chips and freeze-dried strawberries.
These alone are AMAZING!
Look how yummy they turned out!
Mmmmm, can you see the strawberries and white chocolate chips? So simple, yet soo good!
Batch Number 2:
For Batch number 2 we added pink food coloring. So, it was literally the same as Batch 1 (White Chocolate Chips and Freeze Dried Strawberries) BUT they were now PINK.
Batch Number 3:
For batch number 3, we built upon that and added chocolate chips.
I definitely think the chocolate chips took it up a notch to a WHOLE NEW LEVEL. But then again, I’m a chocolate girl.
Mmmmmm, look at all that chocolatey goodness! Yum!
Now imagine it hot out of the oven…..mmmmmmm…..
Batches numbers 1 and 2 with JUST the white chocolate and freeze-dried strawberries were pretty darn amazing too. I have to admit, I ate more than 1 ok, I ate a whole bunch….
Using the freeze-dried strawberries really adds a rich strawberry flavor and a nice chewy texture. IT’s not overly chewy like dried fruit; it’s a very light chew texture…just enough to give it a little something unexpected and at the same time…addicting.
If you’ve read my recipe for Strawberry Fudge, you’ll remember how I fell in love with these strawberries during that recipe.
The freeze-dried strawberries are great to use because they’re not overly sweet and they don’t add extra moisture to your recipe, but they do add a LOT of strawberry flavor.
Breast Cancer Decorations
Finally, I took several of the cookies and decorated them for Breast Cancer Awareness. I just used cupcake spray icing and drew a little ribbon, then I sprinkled pretty pink sprinkles on top.
You could also do this with hearts or initials, whatever you want.
But I thought it gave it a little extra special touch.

Strawberry Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe
Safety Note—When pouring the bag of strawberries in—make sure you keep an eye out for the desiccant pack. I’d recommend pouring it into a bowl or measuring cup until you find it. The last thing you want is for it to fall in the batter without you knowing it.
As I mentioned earlier, I made my cookies by creating 3 batches. If you know that you just want 1 batch, wherein they’re all the same, then feel free to make that in your first go-round. The steps listed below will illustrate how to make these cookies 3 different ways with the batch system.
- Ingredients
- 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour.
- 1 teaspoon baking soda.
- 1 teaspoon salt.
- 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened.
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar.
- 3/4 cup packed brown sugar.
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract.
- 2 large eggs.
- 1 cup white chocolate morsels
- 1 cup semi-sweet morsels
- 1 bag freeze dried strawberries—I buy mine at Trader Joe’s
- Cupcake spray icing (Optional)
- Pink Sprinkles (Optional)
- Pink food coloring (Optional)
- Step 1
- PREHEAT oven to 375° F. Open the bag of Freeze-Dried strawberries and take out the desiccant pack.
- Step 2-Make the Base Dough
- COMBINE flour, baking soda and salt in small bowl. Beat butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar and vanilla extract in large mixer bowl until creamy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Gradually beat in flour mixture. Stir in white chocolate morsels and the freeze-dried strawberries. Divide the dough into 3 sections. Put 2 sections aside for Batches 2 and 3.
- Drop by rounded tablespoon onto ungreased baking sheets.
- Step 3
- BAKE for 9 to 11 minutes or until golden brown. Cool on baking sheets for 2 minutes; remove to wire racks to cool completely.
- Step 4—Batch 2-Pink White Chocolate Strawberry
- Grab your second section of dough, put it back in the mixing bowl and add 2-4 drops of pink food coloring. If you’d like it darker, then feel free to add more.
- Drop by rounded tablespoon onto ungreased baking sheets.
- BAKE for 9 to 11 minutes or until golden brown. Cool on baking sheets for 2 minutes; remove to wire racks to cool completely.
- Step 5-Batch 3-Chocolate Chip Batch
- Grab your last section of dough and add in the food coloring and chocolate chips. Or if you don’t want food coloring, you can leave it out.
- Drop by rounded tablespoon onto ungreased baking sheets.
- BAKE for 9 to 11 minutes or until golden brown. Cool on baking sheets for 2 minutes; remove to wire racks to cool completely.
- Step 6-Decorate
- Use cupcake icing spray and make simple ribbons (for breast cancer awareness) or hearts for Valentine’s Day, or initials, etc. Then cover in sprinkles.
- Enjoy!
