How to Make a Magical No-Sew Unicorn Wall-Hanging
I really enjoy the Michael’s Kids Club sessions when we walk away with something we’ll use or keep for a while. And when I saw this activity for an easy Unicorn wall art kid craft, I just had to sign up.
Best of all, there’s no sewing necessary because it’s all just paper and glue! So Brilliant!
Make it Your own
This is such a fun activity for the kids with lots of room for personal expression.
Everything can be personalized from colors to text to embellishments.
I’m going to outline the basic way to get this project done, but of course, let your little one have fun and make it their own.
As you can see with my little girls’ final pieces, their designs were very different from each other…and even more different from the professional example from Michaels.

When we were at Michael’s, they provided a simple paper unicorn stencil that my girls used to cut-out their unicorn head on their choice of colored paper. However, since Michael’s doesn’t have one online to link to, I just went ahead and made a new one for my readers.
I designed it in 3 color choices: pink/pink mane, pink/teal mane, pink/purple mane. I also included a text printable for “Magical” and “Sisters.”

Instructions How to Make your No-Sew Unicorn Wall Hanging
Step 1: Make the base
Take out your 8 ½ X 11 piece of white card stock. This will be the base of the wall-hanging.
Step 2: Attach the dowels
Parents: Frame the top and bottom of the wall hanging with the wooden dowels by attaching them with a strip of hot glue. See image below.
Step 3: Make a Text Section
Next, take a ruler and measure 2 1/2 “ up from the bottom dowel. Make a light line across the page with pencil. Your child will use this space to insert their text.
Step 4: Add the Unicorn Head
Unicorn Head Option 1:
Have your child choose whichever unicorn they like best (pink, teal, purple) from our Unicorn Printable. Then have them cut it out and then glue it on the white card stock. (You may have to help them with the mane or tricky sections).
Unicorn Head Option 2:
Silhouette style: Have your child use the “Our Sutton Place” printable unicorn as a stencil and trace it on a black (or colored) piece of paper and then cut it out. Then they can glue it on the white card stock. This will give more of a silhouette-style effect.
Step 5: Add Text
Ideally, the text is designed to go in the bottom section (2 1/2 “ above the bottom dowel) but if your child wants to use more space, that’s fine too. My girls did it both ways.
In my printable, I’ve included text for “Magical” like the original Michael’s example. Your child can cut that out and glue it down with some glue stick, or they can use alphabet stencils to make their own text. Or they can write something free-hand. (My girls used stencils and free-hand.)
You could also print out your child’s name by using a simple Word doc. If you do this and would like to know the colors I used for the unicorn printable so it coordinates, they are as follows:
Teal color: 2cb8b6
Pink color: ff8bc6
Purple color: 744eaa
Step 6: Time to decorate!
Now for the super fun part—decorating! Add sparkles, gems, and lots of color! The sky’s the limit!
Step 7: Attach the twine or yarn.
When your child is done, help them attach the yarn or twine at the top so you can hang it. Just tie each end of the string to each side of the dowel. You may want to secure it with a little extra hot glue. The length of the yarn is up to you.
Step 8: Hang on the wall.
I just used a pushpin and it was super easy.
Don’t forget to PIN this for later!

Make a Unicorn Wall Hanging Version for Sisters
Moms of girls: you can also make one for your daughters!
Our Michael’s instructor was working on this fun piece for her own daughters. If you’d like to make a larger wall hanging like this for your daughters, use a 11 X 14 piece of paper and print out the “Sisters” text from my free printable.

It would have to be a no-sew project for me to do. It looks easy enough, also. My nieces will love it.

hahaha my thoughts exactly! And the trick is just hot glue the wooden dowels! You could also substitute fabric for the paper base and just hot glue it.
Rachel says
How cool! I love that they are no sew so even my 2.5 year old could have fun with this!

Great idea! That would be so fun! And you could make one for yourself too. You could make it a little bit more sophisticated by making the unicorn a black silhouette. Let me know if you do it–I’d love to see how it turns out!
